A "stock" photo of a Russian Orthodox family turned out to be of Andriy Sadovyy, a Ukrainian mayor - and a Catholic.
The Moscow newspaper Moskovskiya Vedemosti used a photo of Sadovyy's family in a story about the ban on Americans adopting Russian children."Americans won't be receiving any more Russian children" ran the headline in the Orthodox newspaper.
The Ukrainian website Zaxid.net spotted the picture in which Saddovyy and family are strolling through Lviv - the Ukrainian city where he is mayor.
Lviv photographer Yuriy Dyachyshyn told Zaxid.net he took the photo in 2008.
The Russian paper did not ask his permission to use the photo, and has since replaced it on its website.
